Keep it Clean and Tidy!
My latest bag pattern evolved from my need for a handy storage bag that I could take to the swimming pool for all the smaller stuff that ends up in the bottom of my backpack. I’m forever rooting around for my goggles, earplugs, swim cap, shampoo, brush, locker coin, hand paddles etc. Cue the Tall and Tidy Wash Bag!
Designed to be sewn with waterproof fabrics, the Tall and Tidy Wash Bag is quick to cut out and sew, with no interfacing or ironing required. My preferred choice of fabric is laminated cotton, which is easy to sew, wipe clean, washable and resilient, making it ideal for bags with a ‘wet’ use or any item that requires frequent cleaning.
It is also more environmentally friendly than traditional oilcloths or PVC coated fabrics. Pictured here is the Blue Hills matte laminated cotton from Cloud 9 Fabrics.
The front of the bag has a zipped, full width pocket which can store your phone, glasses, tissues, sanitiser, anything you need within easy reach.
It has a flat base which can be made in a contrast fabric like faux leather (here I have used a Rex faux leather in red from Sew Hot).
The top of the bag opens wide to enable easy access to the contents. Inside the bag I have used a hardwearing, waterproof red canvas.
There are a further two deep slip pockets inside the bag which hold bottles upright. You can easily add more pockets to the other side as well or make it a single larger pocket.
This pattern requires minimum hardware, just a d-ring or split key ring for the optional carry handle and two zippers and your good to sew!
You can easily add another pocket to the back of the bag as well, for the ultimate storage pouch!
