Frank Jr. Crossbody Bag pattern by Sincerely Jen Patterns

The One with Frank Jr.

Say hello to Frank Jr., a fun new bag pattern that I recently tested for Sincerely Jen Patterns! A compact, lightweight bag for carrying your daily essentials, Frank Jr. can be made as a crossbody or waist bag, whichever you prefer. It's unique 3D design reminds me of a small camera bag!

In keeping with her usual style, Jenny has incorporated some clever design techniques to build on bag making skills and achieve a professional looking bag.

This pattern is written for heavier weight fabrics like waterproof canvas or vinyl, omitting the need for additional interfacings which is always a bonus! Jenny also shows you how to work with these trickier fabrics to achieve the best results. The bag can still be made with lighter weight fabrics if like me, you are using a domestic sewing machine and want to play it safe. You'll just need reinforce the fabric with extra interfacing for added structure.

I chose one of my all-time favourite Rifle Paper Co cotton prints in Garden Party Blue. I used a more durable, black "Rex" faux leather and a pop of green stripe cotton inside.

The front zipped front pocket is the perfect size for your phone or sunglasses.

There is a discreet slip pocket on the back for smaller items.

The unusual construction method for the inner zipped pocket is ideal for a heavier weight fabric like waterproof canvas. I much preferred this method to the zipper 'window' technique usually found in bag patterns.

All in all, a fun challenge with lots of juicy new techniques and an adorable and rather stylish result!
